Wood is one of the materials that humans have been using for many thousands of years. Its popularity, despite passing centuries, fashions and constant and faster technological progress, is not decreasing, but on the contrary, it is increasing. What machines can be used for its processing, both in industrial-scale production and in smaller plants? Let's find out.

What machines are used in woodworking?

Woodworking machines can be divided depending on whether the material is used industrially, in typical carpentry processing or artistically. We will address these first two groups.

One of the basic machines used in industrial woodworking is a machine tool. The group of machine tools includes many devices that make it possible to shape wood in the desired way. Machine tools include:

  • circular saws – they are widely used in the wood industry and are used for longitudinal cutting, which is one of the first steps in solid wood processing;
  • trucks – used for cutting logs, producing prisms and edges from sawmill raw material. They are widely used in small and large industrial plants and sawmills;
  • planers – they are used to process wood and give it a specific dimension, smoothness and shape;
  • thicknessers – this is a common name for planing machines that allow you to obtain boards of a specific thickness;
  • milling machines – devices designed for flat or profile milling of straight or curved solid wood elements;
  • grinders – work well when processing large and flat wooden surfaces;
  • wood lathes – allow you to obtain the desired shape and size of a wooden product.

The carpentry machines currently produced and used offer many possibilities. Importantly, they are constantly modernized and many of them, especially those intended for industrial-scale production, are computer-controlled. They make work easier and, as a result, allow for a significant increase in efficiency.
